On The Lookout For Häagen-Dazs' Peppermint Bark

One way you can tell the holidays are coming is when you start seeing peppermint bark candies for sale. I was in Macy's this weekend and saw peppermint bark popcorn and peppermint bark chocolates. Finally this evening, I saw an ad in Gourmet magazine for Peppermint Bark, a new limited edition iced cream by Häagen-Dazs. As soon as I can track this down I will review this intriguing dessert.

Turkey Hill Dairy will be launching a new line of light ice cream flavors called Dynamic Duos. The line includes "Movie Night," popcorn-flavored ice cream with candy-coated popcorn, praline peanuts and vanilla ice cream with creamy caramel swirls; "PB Explosion," vanilla ice cream with choco peanut butter cups and milk chocolate ice cream along with peanut butter swirls; "CocoNutz!," vanilla ice cream with choco almonds and coconut ice cream and toasted coconut; and "Caramel Cone Chaos," caramel ice cream with chocolate-covered cone pieces and vanilla ice cream with caramel.

Dreyer's is adding to its limited edition line with the debut of "Slow Churned Hot Cocoa" light ice cream. This concoction is comprised of sweet marshmallows swirled into a light chocolate ice cream.

Known primarily for their fabulous nuts, this airy store runs the gamut, from produce to fish/meat to cheese to baked goods and prepared foods to general groceries to dried fruit and nuts. The shop also carries a nice array of olive oils, spices and seasonings, as well as kitchen-oriented items such as dishware, cutlery and linens.

Fantastic Italian grocery store with all types of pasta, cheese, spices, canned tomatoes, olive oils, vinegar, deli items. If you are searching for gigantic cans of whole tomatoes, here's your place.

Spanish foods aplenty including chorizos, olive oils, cheeses, and numerous groceries, as well as yummy bocadillos (tasty sandwiches served on fresh ciabatta bread). The made-to-order sandwiches take awhile to prepare but are well worth the wait.

Though this shop is small, it packs quite a lot into its tiny walls. You might think they're nuts when you look at the price they charge—as in unbelievably inexpensive. As you might guess, they specialize in cheese and have quite the array, from stinky to smoked. The two counters in the front of the store seem to hold different products each time you visit (cheese, yogurt, butter) which is a lot of fun (unless your favorite item is missing). In the back of the cash only-shop, you'll find a fair amount of pastas, olives, bread, oils, crackers, and canned tomatoes so you can have something to go along with your cheese.
